Trend report: What to wear for AW21

Gabriela Hearst AW21

New season, new trends! I don’t subscribe to big changes so I tend to look for second-time-around trends that suit my personal taste. (Much more manageable that way.) We’re all a bit more conscious about how we shop now so here’s a gentle reminder that you can probably just shop your existing closet for some of these. While there’s definitely a sense of ‘going out out‘ energy in the air, I’m more focused on the everyday wardrobe. So new denim silhouettes, elevated knits, hands-free bags and the perfect boots it is – with a little wellness and beauty newness included!

1/ WATCH BAES? IT’S TIME.
It’s taken a while, but classic women’s watches are having a moment. Recognised as timeless accessories rather than simply timekeepers, their popularity is being celebrated by watchfluencer platforms such as Hodinkee and Brynn Wallner’s Dimepiece. I’m excited to see what Camille Miceli will do for Emilio Pucci as its new artistic director.

Among her resume highlights: Her first internship was with Azzedine Alaïa. She worked as a publicist for Chanel. She worked with Raf Simons at Christian Dior, overseeing jewellery including the – can we say iconic? – double ball earring. And she also worked with Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton as creative director of accessories developing jewellery, shoes, bags, sunglasses, and more. Her plans for Pucci are apparently centred on “joy and well-being.”

Her first collection is expected in 2022. (more…)

Quote of the day: Pieter Mulier on Alaïa’s value-for-time approach

“He was taking his own time, but I also discovered that his clothes withstand time. They are eternal. While I was discussing with Richemont, I bought a lot of vintage pieces and each time I realized they were immune to aging. At Alaïa, creation has its own pace. Such a rare thing in the landscape of fashion. Time as luxury.”

A great reflection from Pieter Mulier on Azzedine Alaïa’s appreciation of time, Vogue. (more…)
