From looking at the back-end of my affiliates (those links that sometimes earn me commission – if people shop the posts), I can tell you that COS* is as popular with Disneyrollergirl readers as it is with me.

And now, we have an idea why.

In recent months, the Swedish high street brand has been pushing into a more luxe-leaning direction, with designer-looking products and international fashion shows à la brands like Dior and Chanel, attended by A-list celebs and their version of EIPs (i.e. top-tier Instagram influencers).

Vogue Business has the low-down, noting that with its sixth position in the Lyst Index top 10 ranking of fashion’s hottest brands, COS is filling the white space for the “former high-end shopper who may have pulled back spending as of late”. Quality is a major focus – of design, fabrics, art direction and photography. And the in-store experience is always a serene pleasure. As managing director Daniel Hermann says, “you should feel value [whether] the price point is low or high.” Indeed, according to The Future Laboratory’s ‘New Codes of Value’ macro trend report, value is the latest (elusive) must-have ‘metric’ for brands and it’s something COS serves very well.

While its viral pieces include a quilted bag and barrel-leg trousers, I’m much keener on the quiet classics that it manages to reinvent in contemporary cuts, colours and proportions. Year-round knitwear* is particularly strong, plus tailored shorts*, casual outerwear* and this linen tote*.

Burberry-X-Line- emoji-London-Fashion-Week

Here’s the latest ‘Ask Alison’ guest post from retail expert and DRG contributor, ALISON BISHOP, on how brands are using new social strategies to monetise fashion week

Fashion month has kicked off and already the digerati style-set are hot on the heels of the latest ‘influencers’ and their preferred social media platforms. WIRED Retail 2014: My top 5 takeaways

WIRED-Retail-Amber-Venz-Rewardstyle-Like-To-Know-It

This year’s WIRED Retail (supported by digital marketing agency Valtech) was a winning combination of all my favourite elements – fashion, retail, social and curation. We’ve been talking about these subjects a hell of a lot lately but certain messages are being crystalised. Among last Monday’s speakers were the founders of Lyst, Farfetch and RewardStyle, as well as Google UK’s Peter Fitzgerald, Etsy’s VP of business development Nicole Vanderbilt, Instagram’s Tracy Yaverbaun and Depop’s CEO, Runar Reistrup.
