Trend Report: what to wear for SS22

CHANEL SS22 by Christina Fragkou

What’s new in fashion? Nothing much! What’s being reprised, updated, revamped, remixed? Loads. This spring it’s mostly about rehashing the 90s and 00s and what’s kind of scary is that ‘the 90s’ is now officially retro in the way the 50s was for me. It’s really quite terrifying interesting to see. (more…)

The beauty gesture: solid perfume

Solid perfumes are back.

Glossier has revived its much loved but discontinued Glossier You solid perfume* in a new refillable format (below). Even better, it’s alcohol-free, water-free and vegan. The previous version wasn’t refillable, so Glossier pressed pause while it perfected the product. The benefits of this cult new (and permanent) version are that its small, pebble-like case is portable and travel-friendly, while the solid balm formula allows for more precise application. The balm refill comes in a small tin tray that slots into the container via a magnet. The Glossier You scent is the same; a musky skin scent that’s subtle and personal. Buy it here*. (more…)

YSL Nu is the latest in the line of anti-flawless make-up ranges for Gen Z (but Gen X might enjoy it too)

YSL Nu make-up line for Gen Z

YSL Nu*, the new make-up-meets-skincare hybrid from YSL Beauty is one of the best (dare I say ‘authentic’) iterations of the current ‘real skin’ beauty ranges I’ve seen yet. While the photography adheres to the ‘Glossier’ playbook (think extreme close-ups, racially diverse casting, un-perfect skin) it’s also clearly unretouched and the lighting is fairly unforgiving. Yet the images are striking and the cast cool enough to make this a compelling sell.

According to Hypebae, these five items were created with Gen Z for Gen Z. (more…)

Confirmed: The Glossier London store IS returning to Covent Garden – permanently

…But not in the same place.

News just in! The Glossier London store is returning to Covent Garden. The most successful of the global Glossier pop-ups, the permanent London store will be opening in a new spot – just a few yards from its previous location in Floral Street.

Scheduled for a December opening, the new Glossier Covent Garden store will be located at the much-more-visible 43 King Street – aka the oldest building in Covent Garden (below). It’s right next door to the Apple store and alongside the Covent Garden piazza, thus much better for footfall. [UPDATE: It will open on Thursday 9th December at 10am.]

Glossier London King Street

Covent Garden has long been considered London’s ‘beauty quarter’, with Chanel, Dior and Charlotte Tilbury boutiques all contributing to the buzz of this retail destination. As I mentioned last week, the big tourist cities are slowly opening up post-Covid, so we should expect to see plenty more exciting retail activity in the world’s city centres.
