I seriously need to up my sun hat game

Here in the UK we’re quite deluded about sun care. Being deprived of bright sun for nine months of the year, we go a bit mad in the other three. And thus convince ourselves that sun protection doesn’t matter as it’s never strong enough. Or something.

This year though I need to get out of that mindset. One way is to get acquainted with the better sun care creams. But equally important is to try to cover up a bit more, stay out of direct sun, wear good sunglasses and invest in some decent headgear. Top of my wish list is this Arket seersucker sun hat* (above) but there are plenty of other inexpensive but versatile hats around in cotton, straw, linen and raffia.

I rate these from Jigsaw*, & Other Stories* and H&M*. Plus, for a bit more money, these from Toast, Dries*, Loewe* and Burberry*. (more…)

How to work from home (and actually get things done)

While certain sectors of society are keen to get workers back into their offices, others are looking at a longer-term future of working from home. What that future actually looks like is anybody’s guess. But I think we’ve adjusted to the idea that we’ll continue to spend a certain amount of time kitchen table-bound – at least for the short-to-medium term.

On my radar: anti-leather bags

I used a tote bag for the first time in months last week. Like practically everyone else, I’ve not commuted since March, so I’ve been getting by with pockets for my daily walkabout, or a compact J&M Davidson camera bag if I’m going further than the coffee shop at the end of my road.

But last week I went to meet up with a friend and needed a bigger bag for the mask-brolly-sweater gubbins I had to carry with me. (more…)
