Gucci ss16 by Kevin Tachman for Vogue

When fashion editors go ga-ga at a re-see, you know a brand has struck commercial gold. Example: Gucci’s SS16 collection, which ticks every accessory box you can think of, giving you umpteen options to add your own imprint to Alessandro Michele’s lavish vision. (more…)

New season fashion books

The History Of Modern Fashion Daniel James Cole and Nancy Deihl

Years and years and years ago, I remember gearing up for my first term at fashion college. We were given a list of things we needed to buy, which necessitated a trip to R. D. Franks in Market Place (off Oxford Circus) to stock up on essential books and magazines. (more…)

Buy it now: my new season picks

Like it or not, autumn has almost arrived and the only good thing about that is the prospect of Fashion Week-ready newness. So let’s be postitive. I was in Selfridges yesterday and headed straight to Miu Miu which is the best it’s ever been this season. I can definitely get down with all its pleated, kilty skirt shapes, from this OTT green python number to the more sedate, wool boucle tweed skirt – accompanied by Isabel Marant’s sensible red cable knit.

Thick, textured knitwear is always a yes in my books, so I’m seriously warming to Carven’s check sweater and these supersized cashmere socks from Barrie. Meanwhile, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s tufty grey sweater has the go-anywhere factor that I love, as do Vetements‘ oddball jeans.

On the jewellery front, I’ve just discovered Charlotte Chesnais, whose rings and bracelets are original but wearable…

AW15 trend report: Hermes accessories edit

Hermes aw15 accessories -A la Plume Giant Scarf 140 in silk twill by Florence Manlik

The Hermès Oran slide sandal made have been the hit of the summer, but there’s plenty more to love from the Hermès AW15 accessory collection. First, I have to flag up this A la Plume giant scarf by Florence Manlik. The abstract feather design has a bit of a pop art feel to it, and sorry, I know this is such a cliche but I would seriously love to have this framed and hung on my wall.

As I mentioned in The DRG Style Index a while ago, shoes are a major focus for Hermès, with boyish buckled boots and refined alligator heels getting equal attention…

There’s also a new watch release. The first new Hermes watch collection since 1992, the Slim d’Hermès is designed to be an everyday watch. It’s extremely appealing, with an elegant round dial, ultra-thin automatic movement and numerals designed by graphic designer Philippe Apeloig. The Slim d’Hermès watch comes in a family of sizes and strap variations, with or without diamonds. This one’s my favourite in steel and black boxcalf…

As with other heritage luxury houses, Hermes has been ramping up its fine jewellery offer. There’s a growing trend for casual fine jewellery as exemplified by these wear-with-everything Filet d’or earrings. I also really love these calfskin and brass bangles and matching pendant with the white topstitch (I can’t help wondering if Hermes uses a custom Pantone colour to match this perfect shade of expensive tan)…

Finally, on the bag front, I love the playfulness of this lipstick pink Maxibox Mini, a boxy calf leather bag on a long wrist strap. The strap can slip over the shoulder or it can be doubled round the wrist…
