Perfect pairing: White 501s + Jo Malone Incense & Cedrat
White jeans. To some, they conjur up visions of skinny super-stretchy Vicky Beckham jeans accompanied by WAG-era plat-heeled Tributes. But not me. For my generation, a white jean (only an original-cut Levi’s boy-fit 501, mind,) signals 80s euro cool – especially when cropped at the ankle and accompanied by Gucci loafers, Ray-Ban Wayfarers, an obscure style mag and an exotic Italian beverage, supped at a pavement table. Ahhhh, the days of thinking a cappuccino outside Bar Italia was the height of sophistication… (more…)

1. MARGARET HOWELL PAYS TRIBUTE TO BARBARA HEPWORTH
Every year Mr DRG and I talk about going to St Ives and I’ve still never been. Oh well, this summer St Ives (kind of) comes to us with Tate Britain’s new exhibition, Barbara Hepworth: Sculpture for a Modern World. To accompany it, there’s a lovely Hepworth-inspired capsule collection from Margaret Howell, including a smock, work shirt, dungarees and silk scarves. Buy them here. (more…)

Gucci reinvented
So, after many a furrowed brow and clenched jaw, the fash pack has come round to Alessando Michele’s vision for Gucci. I liked it from the first, rushed menswear AW15 collection, which repeated itself in essence for womenswear AW15. We have just seen Cruise 2016 presented in New York, more young, studious-looking models in vintage-inspired threads of a non-specific nature. Michele’s schtick seems to be about the romance and human touch of fashion, hence his Cruise show was presented as girls walking in off the street into a setting of Persian rugs and toile de jouy chairs. Clever and relatable. And beautiful too. (more…)
