Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…
1. HELLO TRADEMARK
I’m keeping my eye on Trademark this year, a brand I only discovered a few weeks ago at their London press day. Shapes are simple, and a tiny bit preppie (well, there are sweatshirts) but it’s the overall presentation as ‘a brand’ that I like – focussed, clean and graphic. (more…)
According to Editd.com, luxury stores have bought into more winter warmers, earlier in the season this year. Net-a-Porter alone has grown its autumn offer of outerwear by 117% compared to last year. Maybe it knows something we don’t? Colourful fake furs are key, as are oversized, slouchy shapes. I’ve noticed a lot of sophisticated-looking fake furs (as opposed to those Big Bird types from a few seasons ago) – I guess that’s the Shrimps effect. The all-enveloping poncho too is a big player, thanks to Issa’s cheery patterns and Burberry’s genius blanket wraps…
I’m still a fan of classics, so I’ve included a cape (from Saint Laurent) and a duffle (Burberry Brit) in my latest Net-a-Porter edit. And I’m trying to wean myself off the navy jumpers so I’m gravitating more towards Jonathan Saunders’ stripes and Bella Freud’s typography. While we’re on the subject, don’t forget that clocks go forward this weekend…

MAIN IMAGE: SAINT LAURENT AW14
This summer, I noticed a trend emerging that I couldn’t wait to hit the high street. All the skater boys were wearing too-short jeans, an inch or so above their battered Vans and it’s a look I’ve always loved.
The skinny jeans obsession has peaked so we’re after something new. and as it coincides with Normcore, I’m just going to say it – welcome back Levi’s 501, I’ve missed you.
How I’d like to wear too-short 501s? Exactly like this. If your 501s aren’t this length when you buy them, you can get them altered at the Levi’s store, fast and free (I think mine were done in a day). And the walkable heels showing just a bit of skin are a refreshing change from Tribute-style ankle-breakers (RIP).
It’s worth investing in classics, so Saint Laurent, Valentino and Celine are good places to start. On the high street, try & Other Stories and Topshop.
