Quiet luxury‘ is all the rage. Except when it’s a shouty, brassy, bike-chain-thick gold bracelet (or two) from Saint Laurent. Yes, Saint Laurent fine jewellery just launched and they want you to know about it.

None of these discreet Alhambra flowers or dainty charms for Anthony Vaccarello. It’s full pelt statement pieces in 18k yellow gold, white gold and diamonds, with a suitably high voltage campaign shot by Juergen Teller.

I’m fantasy shopping the claw ring*, gold chain necklace* and deco twist cuff* (worn over a sleeve, of course)…

At the risk of sounding trite, the humble blanket has stepped up as a metaphor of our times and a recurring motif at the AW23 shows. A symbol of post-Covid comfort and tactility as well as warmth (the UK energy crisis continues) and survival (another day, another earthquake), we just can’t be separated from our security blankets.

Single or stack?



Cartier Trinity bracelet by Chitose Abe Sacai

Cartier has been in the news a lot in the last 12 months. Mostly for its watches (this was the latest release and this guy seems to be its most high profile collector), but this month for a new jewellery drop (above).

The Cartier x Chitose Abé (of Sacai fame) collab is perfectly in sync for the two design leaders. The Cartier Trinity ring was initially created in 1924 by Louis Cartier and was a favourite of Jean Cocteau. Its three intertwining bands of yellow gold, rose gold and white gold have been deconstructed by Abé into new distorted shapes in a collection of two rings, a bracelet, a necklace and a hybrid earring-ring.
