1. TEAM HEDI
I’ve read two articles about Hedi Slimane this week. One is a very long interview by Dirk Standen on Yahoo Style, and the other is a critique by Alex Fury in The Independent. Both are very good but I had to disagree with Fury’s negative assessment of Slimane at Saint Laurent. (more…)
When you do the rounds of press days in April and October, you get a very clear sense of the trends that are going to push through for the season. The designers have done their bit, the stores have bought the commercial sellers, and then the PRs do their own edit to show the press. As an editor, if you can’t spot the winners by then, you need to try harder. (more…)

1. YVES SAINT LAURENT’S UBER-EXCLUSIVE COUTURE
“It will be used only for ‘friends of the house,’ and can be both for men or women, daywear or evening wear. Hedi Slimane decides these orders case by case. Unlike a couture collection, this is an even more exclusive definition.” So quoth an unnamed Saint Laurent exec in the New York Times on the subject of the new Yves Saint Laurent made to order service.
