Just putting together a few classic picks from The Outnet* as we segue into full-on summer mode. I was a bit late publishing this, so all the amazing The Row shirts and flat pumps have sold out but it’s worth signing up to the Outnet newsletter for next time.
I’ve finished digesting all the SS22 collections and I think we can safely say we’re over the 2010s obsession with #oldceline-style ‘minimalism’.
I say ‘we’, but I don’t mean me.
Personally, I’m still here for what I call gentlewoman style; aka timeless pieces that straddle what we like to consider ‘masculine’ (tailoring, functionality) and ‘feminine’ (decoration, softness) dressing. I will never get bored of my baggy chinos and boyfriend 501s, Dries snakeskin boots, Equipment shirts and merino crew necks.
Professionally, yes it’s more exciting to write about the elaborate, hedonistic and whimsical and I’m tempted to bust out my Prada lip-print mules and Sergio Rossi raspberry moiré-silk heels. But it’s also fine by me if people (read: under 30s) would rather switch the Arket blazers and Acne knits for first wave reality TV garb à la The Simple Life-era low-rise jeans and triangle bandeau tops. (Uggs on the other hand? Not even Telfar* can tempt me to go there.) (more…)
If 2020 was all about sweats, I think autumn 2021 will be all about the return to sweaters. That comfort and cosiness is still our moda operandi but with an additional layer of polish. Here are a few of my recommendations…
ROLLNECKS. Slimfitting rollnecks are used as both a styling device and an extra layer. They look good in a contrasting colour to what’s worn on top, and I particularly love the contrast of a fitted rollneck under an oversized crew neck knit or shirt. Try COS for lightweight merino wool* and Brunello Cucinelli for winter white short sleeves*. (more…)
After overindulging in 90s trash movies, toasted Panettone and lashings of brandy cream, it’s time for a palate cleanse. Here’s mine: The Row SS21.
What’s nice is that you can recreate these looks with stuff you already own. Just super-starch the shirts and steam iron the pants so they have a crease so sharp they could stand up on their own. (more…)
