London Fashion Week for the people

Fashion Week for press and VIPs really does seem to be a thing of the past these days. The best shows always seem to have an element of public spectacle – whether that’s Virgil Abloh’s debut as Louis Vuitton’s menswear creative director (for which he invited hundreds of fashion students to watch) or Martine Rose’s Camden street show, which was literally staged in a residential street, with all the neighbours watching.

This week’s London Fashion Week SS19 shows coincide with the London Design Festival, which means retailers have the spotlight on both fashion and interior design. (more…)

London Fashion Week AW14 highlights: day 5

The final day of London Fashion Week was all about youthful ideals and teen romance, kicking off at 9am with Marques’Almeida. This duo has slowly and steadily built an appealing aesthetic that riffs on tattered-edged insousiance of a bygone kind. While earlier collections were rooted in nineties grunge, AW14 takes its essence from New York’s Chelsea Hotel and its famous 1970s inhabitants. The models’ Patti Smith-style bird’s nest hair matched the fuzzy furry stoles and shoes, while the colour palette was surprisingly upbeat – complemented by primary-coloured MAC paint ringing the eyes. London Fashion Week AW12: more highlights

More snippets from LFW…
London Fashion Week is famous for its surprises and its mix of commercial shows by Paul Smith, Nicole Farhi and Jasper Conran are nicely balanced by the interactive, multi-sensory theatre of other designers. Richard Nicoll chose to present a hybrid of showroom, shoot and show while McQ by McQueen’s theatrical show had an element of audience participation at the end. (more…)
