In an era of post quiet luxury careful consumption, styling becomes all-important. Some say stylists were the unsung heroes of the recent menswear shows (I concur!) and they demonstrate plenty of ways to invigorate an existing wardrobe without extra outlay.

One of my favourite tricks is doubling up and I’m seeing this play out a lot on runways and IRL. I’ve already covered double shirts and the layered tees from Celine SS26. Some other easy multiples to consider…

Double belts are becoming a regular feature of Michael Rider’s Celine collections (below) and there’s also an argument for wearing a belt on naked skin, with another looser one over your clothes for an erotic charge à la Hermès in Harper’s Bazaar (more…)



On Tommy Ton and the nuance of street style



Tommy Ton is the gold standard of Fashion Week street style photography for me. I think it’s his attention to details – nuances, gestures – a real feeling for how people inhabit clothes* and not just the rent-a-hype characters.

I love the way he documented the models in Michael Rider’s debut Celine show in July. There’s so much styling in these detail shots, whoever thought of getting Tommy to capture them is a genius ( most likely, Michael tbh). Fashion always looks better in 3-d movement than those generic ’shot from the front’ catwalk pics. (more…)

Sad but true, blogging is considered something of a retro curiosity. Now that everything 2000s is trending, we’re seeing quite a few nostalgic deep dives into the early days of fashion blogs, aka the grass roots movement that upended the publishing industry.

Vogue US has a podcast here, which uncovers the anonymous online identity years, the democratisation of fashion shows and early Fashion Week street style (throw back to that time Tommy Ton’s team mobbed my friend at LFW for a photo of a hole in his sleeve!). (more…)
