Double happiness: two tees

Celine ss26 double tee

What’s with my fixation on doubling up? Last summer it was all about the unexpected appeal of the double shirt. This year I’ve mentioned short-sleeve tees layered over long-sleeve ones, a throwback to my late-80s proto-grunge era.

At Celine’s recent Spring 26 show (above and below), Michael Rider reminded me of another favourite pile-on look, the loose, layered short-sleeve tees – preferably tucked in and belted. This looks great when the tees are soft and fluid, with the sleeves rolled up. Colours should be contrasting – I usually wear a white tee under a dark one to get that ‘fresh white slice’ effect.

I like Agnès b’s boxy white Brando tee under black – maybe size up the one on top. Toast also has a great loose-fit cotton tee in charcoal or ‘paper white’ with suitably floppy sleeves here*. But all colour-block combinations are up for experimentation, as well as thick graphic stripes (also an Agnès b hallmark) or geometric prints.

I usually wear this look with white jeans, but this year I’m expanding the wardrobe repertoire to white baggy shorts (I’m into these by Jigsaw* and these by Ozma), Nili Lotan barrel-leg trousers (or the linen version – softer and less extreme), and I love how Brian Molloy styled the Celine tees with generous pleated white pants and a thin belt* to rein in the volume.

P.S: More doubling-up tips here!
