Double happiness: two tees

What’s with my fixation on doubling up? Last summer it was all about the unexpected appeal of the double shirt. This year I’ve mentioned short-sleeve tees layered over long-sleeve ones, a throwback to my late-80s proto-grunge era.

At Celine’s recent Spring 26 show (above and below), Michael Rider reminded me of another favourite pile-on look, the loose, layered short-sleeve tees – preferably tucked in and belted. (more…)

It’s 25 years since Martin Margiela designed his cult AIDS T-shirt, a crudely stencilled screen printed tee with an important message. “There is more action to be done to fight AIDS than wear this T-shirt but it’s a good start”, is a classic example of the power of fashion in social commentary. For Days sustainable closed loop t-shirts

I like the sound of this ‘closed loop’ T-shirt company that works on a subscription model – with a difference. You sign up to get one, two or three tees a month and when your tee is looking worse for wear, you can return it in exchange for another one. I thought my novelty tee days were behind me, but lately I feel like lightening up a bit. Back in the day, I was the queen of Hysteric Glamour, Tonite and vintage tees, with cute typography and way too many Snoopy and Mickey Mouse motifs.
