I thought my novelty tee days were behind me, but lately I feel like lightening up a bit. Back in the day, I was the queen of Hysteric Glamour, Tonite and vintage tees, with cute typography and way too many Snoopy and Mickey Mouse motifs. I even had the New York Herald Tribune tee from A Bout de Souffle. Then I got bored of it all and stripped back to basics – Petit Bateau bretons, American Apparel grey marls and classic Agnes b block stripes.
And now I’m bored with that. There are just too many good tees around and the fomo is getting the better of me. I want to wear cheesy French phrases too! I guess La Garconne has the most ‘grown up’ of the genre, with discreet text on high quality tees. But for high street options, & Other Stories seems to be the funnest go-to. I would most likely team with loafer-length white jeans (this year there are loads – I like La Garconne and Arket), or tuck into a high-waisted A-line mini and chunky Raf trainers on a high summer city break. And no tee is complete without a layered charm jewel or three. Take your pick from Hermes, Urban Outfitters, or these alphabet hoop earrings from Isabella Townsley.
