I finally made the pilgrimage to Sephora UK! It was good but not as epic as I’d built it up to be. I really like the self-service element – it feels like the only truly self-service beauty store where the advisors aren’t poised to ambush you. And the brand curation is well executed – a good combo of Gen Z buzzy new brands and proven classics. There was a queue, but with literally less than five people in it. (more…)

Is it me or are there very few cool images of great grey haircuts out there?

The diversity conversation is great n all but one area where diversity is still lacking fashion-and-beauty wise is in the sphere of ‘older’ women who look their age.

What do I mean by ‘older women’? In this case, let’s say 50+. This is the age of the supermodel generation, and I just noticed a Prada ad in British Vogue featuring 90s model Rachel Williams. (more…)

The post-Covid hedonism wave we were promised doesn’t seem to have quite materialised. There are glimpses of it – a whiff of a smoking revival, the return of the indie sleaze aesthetic – but mostly it’s a lingering backward glance to wilder times.

Discothèque candles got the memo and ran with it. Founded by L.A ladies Jessie Willner and Hanover Booth, the intoxicatingly-scented and gorgeously packaged candles are named after storied clubbing landmarks of their time – think Hacienda, Crisco Disco, Paradise Garage and the Mudd Club. (more…)
