Coming soon: Brunello Cucinelli fragrance
“We wanted a fragrance that could feel like a cashmere sweater…”
It’s an embarrassment of cliches; the ‘cashmere sweater’, the Umbrian outdoorsy inspo, the his-n-hers coupling, the mid-century minimalist bottle design. Brunello Cucinelli has gone full fragrance launch bingo and yes, I’m here for it.
Having dabbled in sensorial scented candles, Brunello Cucinelli is ready for the full beauty-lifestyle assault with a men’s and women’s fragrance launch. The back story is quite sweet; a few years ago, following the death of a good friend – somebody who produced aromatic essences – Cucinelli decided he’d one day like to dedicate a product to him. Progress was hindered by Covid, but the two fragrances are finally ready for lift-off.
Brunello Cucinelli Pour Femme is a woody fragrance anchored in amber and musk, with vetiver and cedar wood, citrusy bergamot and mandarin, plus orange blossom and pink pepper notes. Sounds promisingly uncloying and not overly floral.
Of course, we all know that fragrance isn’t gendered, but Brunello Cucinelli decided it wanted two fragrances and gender is – still – the standard differentiation. Brunello Cucinelli Pour Homme sounds deliciously woody with a hint of spice – cypress, juniper, ginger, black pepper, bergamot and lemon. The bottles are reminiscent of old-school cologne bottles with their glass and aluminium casing and cap, and they’re priced at €180 each. Available in the UK and Europe from May, the U.S from early October and Asia from early 2024.
