When you do the rounds of press days in April and October, you get a very clear sense of the trends that are going to push through for the season. The designers have done their bit, the stores have bought the commercial sellers, and then the PRs do their own edit to show the press. 1. YVES SAINT LAURENT’S UBER-EXCLUSIVE COUTURE
“It will be used only for ‘friends of the house,’ and can be both for men or women, daywear or evening wear. Hedi Slimane decides these orders case by case. Unlike a couture collection, this is an even more exclusive definition.” So quoth an unnamed Saint Laurent exec in the New York Times on the subject of the new Yves Saint Laurent made to order service. Gotta love that pretty much the whole Gucci AW15 collection went into production, mostly unmodified from what we saw on the runway. And if you break it down without the styling and kooky casting, you get desirable, wearable and very commercial clothes (goat hair Dougal-from-Magic-Roundabout-style slippers excepted). (more…)
