10 non-trendy trends to try for 2018

There were many major fashion and beauty trends that dominated 2017. Sock trainers, ginormous puffer jackets, ultra matte lips, overpriced merch tees. I didn’t embrace a single one. But I did indulge in a classics revival or two. White denim, the Burberry check and western boots are a few that are still going strong. And Beauty Pie and Glossier were the two beauty bandwagons I couldn’t resist jumping on.

For the coming year, my favourite unofficial visual search engine, Pinterest tells me that cleansing oil saves are up 555%, derma roller saves are up 345% and ‘vitamin C serum’ saves are up 3379%. I’m already converted to cleansing oils and I’ve only slightly dabbled in vitamin C – maybe this will be the year I go for it? (more…)

Buy it now: how successful will the Gosha X Burberry capsule collection be?

The Gosha X Burberry capsule collection goes on sale on Saturday. It’s weird because I feel like this is almost old news considering we first heard about the collab back in June (and yes, my inner slow fashion advocate hates myself for thinking this…).

In normal fashion timing it’s not old news, but in Burberry see-now-buy-now land, it feels like a lifetime. We saw it on the runway, then in photography shown at the Here We Are exhibition in September and most recently worn by celebrities on the red carpet and in fashion mag editorials. How to relax

There’s only one way I can de-stress at this time of year and no, it’s not a faceful of salted caramel panettone. (OK, why lie? That too.)

The one thing that really works is a piping hot bath, a fat ~~magazine~~ book and a generous capful of Aromatherapy Associates bath oil. These have been a beauty editor’s secret potion since the year dot. There are many other bath unguents of course, but in terms of genuinely allowing deep relaxation, these blissful bottles are practically medicinal. (more…)

Buy it now: Giorgio Armani Eye & Brow Maestro

Maybe it’s my 80s upbringing but I’m a big brow girl through and through. Thankfully, I escaped the 90s barely-there brow trend unscathed. I recall a micro 70s revival in 1993 that resulted in an overplucking epidemic that many never recovered from, followed by the bleached brow which I rather liked but was too scared to attempt. (more…)
