UPDATED: Some pieces are sold out, others have an extra 20% off…

Let’s face it, January is good for only one thing and that is the sales. I’m a very boring strategic sale shopper and use it to zero in on elevated wardrobe staples that will last. For me right now, that’s knitwear, outerwear and work wear.

Quite a few items I’ve featured on recent shopping posts are now on sale as well as perennial DRG favourites, including the Lemaire trench*, Rue de Verneuil totes* and Gabriela Hearst Merion boots*.

Toast Xmas gift

When it comes to gift guides, I always think about the things I’d like to receive. I’m actually very easy to buy for as I’m content with socks, books and edibles. Highsnobiety just opened its concept store – in an airport

Highsnobiety Gatezero Zurich Airport store

For six months, the bricks-and-mortar location will sell a hypebeast-friendly selection of products and exclusive releases from over 20 brands. Think Acne Studios and Gucci RTW and accessories, Comme wallets and Ambush jewellery. Plus travel essentials like toothbrushes and night masks.

From the pictures it looks perfectly pitched for the emerging new-luxury customer for whom brands and insider status are important. So, the hype fashion brands (Bottega, Balenciaga, Loewe and Saint Laurent) are also part of the buy, as well as beauty favourites Aesop, Byredo and Barbara Sturm. Naturally, there’s also a special Gatezero merch line (also available here). (more…)

Oquist skincare

Here’s another recent beauty discovery that speaks to our desire for visual and tactile sensory stimulation. Oquist is a fascinating Swedish skincare brand whose USP is its packaging. Plastic or glass bottles are rejected in favour of terracotta ‘sculptures’.

Why? Because the raw material comes from the earth, so in theory, when you’re done with them, you can simply return them back to the soil. Although the founders have a better idea – to repurpose them as household objects. Namely vases, tea bowls and beautiful lidded vessels. (more…)
