Shop the post: the sensible sale edit

UPDATED: Some pieces are sold out, others have an extra 20% off…

Let’s face it, January is good for only one thing and that is the sales. I’m a very boring strategic sale shopper and use it to zero in on elevated wardrobe staples that will last. For me right now, that’s knitwear, outerwear and work wear.

Quite a few items I’ve featured on recent shopping posts are now on sale as well as perennial DRG favourites, including the Lemaire trench*, Rue de Verneuil totes* and Gabriela Hearst Merion boots*.

On the work wear front, I’ve heard that people are shopping for tailoring again, mostly in a jeans-and-blazer capacity, which doesn’t surprise me a bit. Throughout the pandemic that’s been my go-to and I’m currently on the hunt for both a boxy blazer and some straight leg jeans. These Paco Rabanne jeans* are promising. I can also report that the Jigsaw trousers I was eyeing in November were a great buy and are now 50% off here*. For knitwear, there’s a ton of Jil Sander* on sale that is never going to date, or if that’s still out of your budget then Joseph* is equally reliable.

I’m still obsessed with all thing gorpcore and at this point I don’t think we can have enough down jackets, utility-luxe capes, hiking boots and Nike gear* – thankfully there are ample supplies in the sale.

Gentlewoman style: the Net-a-Porter sale

Net-a-Porter sale

A quick heads-up to let you know that the Net-a-Porter sale* has kicked in. I’m the world’s most sensible sale shopper because I instinctively head for the classics and leave behind all the ‘it’ colours and hype stuff. That said, I won’t be buying any of the acres of sweats that are in the sale. That’s one lock-down trend I managed to swerve!

I can tell you that if you’re after Zoom-friendly but timeless neck wear*, structured ballet flats* or classic Joseph knits*, then you’re in the right place. Beauty-wise there are a few good deals, especially if you like Byredo*, Tom Ford*, Le Labo* and Chantecaille*. (more…)

Gentlewoman style: Matches sale picks (plus an extra 20% off)

Joseph Trousers in the Matches sale

Quick heads up, there’s an extra 20% discount on certain items in the Matches sale*, so if you’re planning on shopping for any upscale basics, have a browse through my edit below. (As always, I may earn a commission on any sales at no cost to you.) To get the extra 20% off on items marked, remember to add the code EXTRA20 at checkout. (more…)

Sale picks: classic buys under £500

Sad but true, I don’t get excited about sales like I used to. Does anybody? I think we’re so used to discounts all year round that we take them when we find them. The end of year sales are a good time to look for staples though, especially if you have Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket. I usually put Christmas money towards a good coat, knit or bag I’ve been eyeing; I’m definitely more of a winter sale person than summer.

Anyway, in the spirit of buying better, here are some sale staples I think are worth a look. This Mackintosh puffer* is excellent – super-warm and lightweight (I bought it in black) and I have a version of this coat* as well. If you’re petite, Mackintosh is always good option for coats. (more…)
