Sale picks: classic buys under £500

neck wallet

Sad but true, I don’t get excited about sales like I used to. Does anybody? I think we’re so used to discounts all year round that we take them when we find them. The end of year sales are a good time to look for staples though, especially if you have Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket. I usually put Christmas money towards a good coat, knit or bag I’ve been eyeing; I’m definitely more of a winter sale person than summer.

Anyway, in the spirit of buying better, here are some sale staples I think are worth a look. This Mackintosh puffer* is excellent – super-warm and lightweight (I bought it in black) and I have a version of this coat* as well. If you’re petite, Mackintosh is always good option for coats. (more…)

What to buy from Me+Em

Me+Em Oversized Silk Blouse

Last November I had the best evening at Me+Em’s Belgravia pop up, hosting a soiree to promote my book. I never feel that comfortable doing customer-facing events. I haven’t done many and I always feel a bit of a nana, but Me+Em have such lovely customers and it ended up being quite a hoot.

It was my first time getting properly intimate with the product. Me+Em sells mostly online so it’s not a brand I’ll find on my usual Liberty-Selfridges-The-Shop-At-Bluebird sweep. But I’ve seen it in PR showrooms and on other people and I knew it aligned with my tastes. I’d say it’s like a more affordable, less high fashion version of Joseph. (more…)

Classic summer sale steals from Net-a-Porter

Classic pieces to buy in the Netaporter sale including this Burberry trench coat

If you thought classic things never go in the sale, you can think again. And you can thank me later for trawling through Net-a-Porter‘s 457,805 sale inventory*. For starters, if you’re in the market for a classic one-piece for your summer getaway, I love the look of Mikoh’s khaki swimsuit here (now £108). Accessorise with Miu Miu’s coordinating cat-eye sunnies (now £114). (more…)

Buy it now: the summer sale edit

Nigel-Shafran-Vogue

Bam! Nothing for ages, then all the sales start at once! Net-a-Porter, Matchesfashion, Liberty, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols all started their sales last week. I’ll be cherry picking my way through but to start with, here’s a quick pick of my current highlights. There’s a ton of Miu Miu and Isabel Marant on sale at Net-a-Porter but be warned, those sizes will go fast (there’s currently only one of these Miu Miu skirts left).

If you’re not over Rockstuds, Valentino’s leopard-spot flats are a bit different and now selling at 30% off at Matchesfashion. That Marc Jacobs ‘Coke-ribbon’ sweatshirt? It’s still kicking around and is 40% off at Net-a-Porter – yours for £720 (but there’s only one size left). And if you’re a lover of McQueen handbags, this red skull-padlock beauty can be yours for £470.01 at Liberty with 30% off. Shop the edit below…
