What to buy from Me+Em

Me+Em Oversized Silk Blouse

Last November I had the best evening at Me+Em’s Belgravia pop up, hosting a soiree to promote my book. I never feel that comfortable doing customer-facing events. I haven’t done many and I always feel a bit of a nana, but Me+Em have such lovely customers and it ended up being quite a hoot.

It was my first time getting properly intimate with the product. Me+Em sells mostly online so it’s not a brand I’ll find on my usual Liberty-Selfridges-The-Shop-At-Bluebird sweep. But I’ve seen it in PR showrooms and on other people and I knew it aligned with my tastes. I’d say it’s like a more affordable, less high fashion version of Joseph. If you like biker jackets, oversized knits, smart trousers that also work off duty and classic colours, then this is for you.

The best bit I discovered is the pattern cutting is impeccable. The proportions are spot on, the shoulders of the blouses fit in the right place, lots of the tops have a slight dip at the back and are cut in a way that lets you wear them untucked or gently tucked. The fabrics and knits have an excellent drape that makes them exactly fit for this purpose.

And everything seems to go with everything else. This, I think, is a major selling point. It’s not fashion fashion, so it’s for the woman who wants to wear things for a long time and know that it won’t be a faff to build outfits. Then there’s the accessories. Very simple – box bags, discreet jewellery, huge, throw-on scarves – but good quality and just the right amount of detail.

On the night, I wore the navy version of the Oversized Silk Blouse. It’s so good! If you’re tall you can wear it untucked (it’s quite long) but you can also tuck in the front and leave the tails billowing out like a train. It feels wonderful on and the sleeves have elegant little splits to show off a bit of skin. (A French tip I shared on the night: if your shirt is buttoned up to the neck, roll up your sleeves. If your cuffs are done up, undo your top two buttons.) The red version is pictured above but the navy is now in the sale (£129) – yay!

I also tried on the Boyfriend Leather Jacket (above, £699) which was a wee bit big but so, so tempting! It’s an oversize cut that hangs just right for wearing knits or other thick layers underneath.

The knitwear is very popular and it’s easy to see why. It’s very ‘lifestyle’-y, and can anyone resist slouchy grey cashmere? On which note, I love the cut of this cropped Cashmere Box Hoody (above, £199) – for a petite person, this is a real win.

FYI, there are lots of new in things on the site at the moment, but also lots of sale stuff. I’ve done an edit below including my sale picks. (You’re welcome!)
