Robert Armstrong made a good point a few weeks ago in the FT. “Intentional underdressing [normcore et al] has become ubiquitous and so lost its power. It’s less fun for the mogul to wear a hoodie when his toadies do too; this explains why dressing up is, slowly but surely, coming back in”.

With the long-awaited arrival of NikeSKIMS, this suggests we’ve reached the apex of casual underdressing. It only recently dawned on me why athleisure was so popular for the last five years. Firstly, it’s easy to wear – pull on and go. (more…)

GAP ad featuring Katseye 2025

Why is everyone obsessed with the latest Gap ad?

I have some thoughts.

The ad dropped last Tuesday and the thing that first grabbed my attention was the catchy tempo of Milkshake (originally by Kelis, but this time covered by K-pop girl group KATSEYE), accompanied by Robbie Blue’s brilliant staccato choreography.

It felt like a return to ye olde Y2K Gap campaigns and I guess the timing of a feelgood Gap denim throwback chimed against the controversial American Eagle ad (more…)

Bottega Veneta just dropped an ad campaign featuring ASAP Rocky in paparazzi photo mode. As in, the brand licensed actual pap images of him out and about wearing Bottega from Getty Images and stuck its logo on top.

Controversial, but I think it’s genius. Probably because it’s so unexpected from Matthiu’s Blazy’s straight-laced Bottega. But also because it fits with Bottega’s recent on-the-street vibe. (more…)
