I had a very naughty start to the year, choosing to bunk off LCM and go on holiday instead. Tsk indeed! I definitely recommend it though. We picked Antwerp for our city break, our flight was half empty and the three days dawdled by at a pleasantly snail-like pace. We went with no great plans other than to mooch around flea markets, eat moules and just enjoy some we-time. OK, we didn’t have much luck on the flea market front but I did discover a wealth of brocante vendors, vintage boutiques and fancy goods emporia to satisfy my shopaholic tendencies. Here then, is my DRG shopping guide to Antwerp…

DE KLOOSTERSTRAAT
I advise catching the early Friday flight from City airport so you arrive with a whole day stretched out ahead. Taxis are a bit of a faff in Antwerp so we decided to do everything on foot, taking the scenic route from our posh B&B (the beautiful BOULEVARD LEOPOLD, separate post coming soon) in the Jewish quarter. What to steal from the menswear shows: Gucci AW15



Gucci AW15 menswear

Big boys blouses, double breasted coats, swishy scarves and fur-lined slippers. Yes please to all of the above and well done Alessandro Michele for giving Gucci a cooler (if slightly Saint Laurent-ified) feel. Buy it now: The Net-a-Porter clearance sale




Er hello, how good is the Net-a-Porter clearance sale? Moschino phone cases and accessories are going for a song – tell your teens! Ditto the J Crew jewellery – now’s the time to buy your statement necklaces (fifty bucks a piece – oh my!). Personally I’m all about these Givenchy earrings and Saint Laurent rings. Don’t dither…



What to steal from the menswear shows: Prada AW15

As with last season, Mrs Prada ponders the relationship between men and women, showing both menswear and womenswear on the same stage for Prada AW15. “What are the unexpected possibilities, the various relationships that may occur between the way men and women can or would dress? The way they represent themselves? This is a subject always under investigation.”

My main takeaways from the Prada menswear AW15 show are bare legs and bovver boots (for girls) and Paul Weller hair (for boys). Plus, who’s going to be first to wear their sleeves turned up just so…? (more…)
