Dan Witz Moshpits, Raves and One Small Orgy

So did you spend the last few days fretting about the new Instagram algorithms? Ahhhh, me too. But it’s important, right? How can we make serendipitous discoveries when Instagram insists on controlling what we see? Example: the picture above, a detail from one of Dan Witz’s paintings, which I just stumbled upon on Instagram yesterday (thank you @ByronesqueVintage). Dior and I: watch the trailer

I’ve just watched a screening of the Dior and I movie, the documentary directed by Frédéric Tcheng which comes out on 27th March (in the UK). Following Raf Simons as he creates his first ever Dior collection in just eight weeks (a couture one, no less), it’s a tense and insightful look at Simons’ creative approach and process as he steps into the lead role at Paris’s most iconic fashion house.

It’s a very human and beautiful film. (more…)

Raf Simons / Sterling Ruby AW14/15 Campaign

For one season only there’s no Raf Simons collection. Instead, there’s Raf Simons/Sterling Ruby, a genuine 50/50 collab that’s as much art as it is fashion. The campaign has just landed, shot by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Oliver Rizzo. I love the straight, short, skinniness of the trousers on model Luca Lemaire, and of course the bulbous shoes. Question is, who will be first to get their hands on the handpainted coat (and will they model it for Tommy Ton)…?

AW14 press day highlights: art meets fashion

I spent last week doing the AW14 press day rounds and my early highlights include all the art-fashion collections emerging. Each X Other is an interesting collective of artists, musicians, designers and other creatives who translate their work into something wearable, beautiful and often poetic, the idea being that art is always around you. For AW14, they have teamed up with New York artist Maripol to produce these simple pieces printed with her recognisable Polaroids and club flyers…
