Burberry Winter Glow Collection

Dear Santa, please can I have my entire tree decked in these sumptuous gold Burberry Beauty packages?

Burberry is banking on beauty, there’s really no doubt about it. And the product is good from what I’ve tried, I’m using the Burberry foundation as my everyday base, after eking out the last blob of Myface MyMix.

So for Christmas, Burberry is gifting us this limited edition array of goodies, in special gold packaging that’s very different from Burberry’s usual neutral colour palette. The boxes alone are beautifully presented – a warm gold, minimal typography, and extremely sophisticated. (more…)

Ask Alison: How beauty brands are getting up close and personal with digitised stores

Here’s the latest ‘Ask Alison’ post from retail expert and DRG contributor, ALISON BISHOP, looking at the emergence of interactive digital stores coming from the premium beauty sector

Bobbi-Brown-beauty-store-Covent Garden

It’s official; Covent Garden has become London’s Beauty Quarter when it comes to stores. Now prestige beauty brands Clinique and Bobbi Brown (above) are experimenting with new, highly personal store concepts. (more…)

Winter picks from Net-a-Porter

According to Editd.com, luxury stores have bought into more winter warmers, earlier in the season this year. Net-a-Porter alone has grown its autumn offer of outerwear by 117% compared to last year. Maybe it knows something we don’t? Colourful fake furs are key, as are oversized, slouchy shapes. I’ve noticed a lot of sophisticated-looking fake furs (as opposed to those Big Bird types from a few seasons ago) – I guess that’s the Shrimps effect. The all-enveloping poncho too is a big player, thanks to Issa’s cheery patterns and Burberry’s genius blanket wraps…

I’m still a fan of classics, so I’ve included a cape (from Saint Laurent) and a duffle (Burberry Brit) in my latest Net-a-Porter edit. And I’m trying to wean myself off the navy jumpers so I’m gravitating more towards Jonathan Saunders’ stripes and Bella Freud’s typography. While we’re on the subject, don’t forget that clocks go forward this weekend…

Matte or glow? Two new foundation favourites

Burberry-Fresh-Glow-Fluid-foundation

This has been a big year for foundation launches but I still haven’t found a match for my holy grail Myface Mymix which is down to its final squirt.

Close though is Burberry’s Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid foundation (£35). Can I be honest? I wasn’t entirely convinced by Burberry’s beauty ambitions at first, so I tested this with lowish expectations. Readers – it’s a keeper. The texture is a moisturising satin fluid that comes out of a pump bottle (which is wayyy too big but I’ll let that pass). (more…)
