Matte or glow? Two new foundation favourites

Burberry-Fresh-Glow-Fluid-foundation

This has been a big year for foundation launches but I still haven’t found a match for my holy grail Myface Mymix which is down to its final squirt.

Close though is Burberry’s Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid foundation (£35). Can I be honest? I wasn’t entirely convinced by Burberry’s beauty ambitions at first, so I tested this with lowish expectations. Readers – it’s a keeper. The texture is a moisturising satin fluid that comes out of a pump bottle (which is wayyy too big but I’ll let that pass). Used dotted around the nose and over a few blemishes around the jawline, it definitely ‘blurs’ those blemishes. I think blending is key and this blends beautifully just using fingers so your skin’s still visible underneath. If you need to build coverage it does that without feeling or looking cake-y. And its staying power is really excellent. I add a bit of Shiseido Sheer & Perfect powder (£29) on my forehead to combat shine and then don’t need to think about it for the rest of the day.

Yves-Saint-Lauren-YSL-Fusion-Ink-Foundation

Another great launch is YSL’s Fusion Ink Foundation (£30.50), not as new as the Burberry foundation but it’s taken me a while to get round to writing this. I picked up a teeny sample bottle a few weeks ago from John Lewis which I love as it’s so easily transportable. As with the full size bottle, the cap has a wee ‘dipper’ attached (hmm I don’t think that’s the technical term) which means you can just use the smallest amount so there’s zero wastage, thus my sample bottle is lasting ages.

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation is the opposite to Burberry’s Fresh Glow, it’s more of a matte velvet finish which isn’t ideal on my slightly dry cheeks. But aside from that, it’s an absolute pleasure to use. I love how smoothly it applies, it’s tempting to just keep going! As with Burberry Fresh Glow foundation, the staying power is impressive. If you tend towards oily skin and want a mattifying foundation with great coverage and a sophisticated velvet finish, I’d definitely recommend this.
