It’s all about the women this week, with International Women’s Day tomorrow and Mother’s Day this Sunday. Despite my inner cynic, I still love Mother’s Day – it’s a good excuse to properly spoil our mums and there’s no shortage of great gift options around at the moment.

Beauty brands tend to highlight the twee-est stuff for Mother’s Day, but all the mums I know are super-cool and don’t want floral soaps and Cath Kidston wash bags. They like Liberty and Space NK or small batch organic oils. They love trying new fragrances (Amanda Carr’s We Wear Perfume site is great for discovery) and are just as swayed by chic packaging as the rest of us. (more…)

There were many major fashion and beauty trends that dominated 2017. Sock trainers, ginormous puffer jackets, ultra matte lips, overpriced merch tees. I didn’t embrace a single one. But I did indulge in a classics revival or two. White denim, the Burberry check and western boots are a few that are still going strong. And Beauty Pie and Glossier were the two beauty bandwagons I couldn’t resist jumping on.

For the coming year, my favourite unofficial visual search engine, Pinterest tells me that cleansing oil saves are up 555%, derma roller saves are up 345% and ‘vitamin C serum’ saves are up 3379%. I’m already converted to cleansing oils and I’ve only slightly dabbled in vitamin C – maybe this will be the year I go for it? (more…)

I bet you didn’t have me down as a Judith Leiber kind of girl. But I have a secret thing for these teeny tiny kitsch crystal-covered minaudieres. They’re like pieces of jewellery really, there’s no way you’re getting more than a lipstick and a pound coin in there.

Judith Leiber started her company in New York in 1963, an émigré from Budapest who designed handbags in her head to get her through the misery of living in one room with 26 others during WW2. (more…)
