WIRED Retail 2014: My top 5 takeaways

This year’s WIRED Retail (supported by digital marketing agency Valtech) was a winning combination of all my favourite elements – fashion, retail, social and curation. We’ve been talking about these subjects a hell of a lot lately but certain messages are being crystalised. Among last Monday’s speakers were the founders of Lyst, Farfetch and RewardStyle, as well as Google UK’s Peter Fitzgerald, Etsy’s VP of business development Nicole Vanderbilt, Instagram’s Tracy Yaverbaun and Depop’s CEO, Runar Reistrup. Naked and nude makeup palettes have undoubtedly been a thing this year. You can get them at all price points (just search them on British Beauty Blog, there’s a new one along every week) but for me, you can’t beat Bobbi Brown. The formulations are beautiful, the shades are supremely wearable and they work hard for day and night so that even the expensive ones earn their keep. (more…)

Burberry is still all about outerwear for me. The Burberry Prorsum pre-fall 2015 collection is heavy on voluminous, textured coats and slim bottoms and I’m noticing a big focus on furry-looking shearlings that are casual, cosy and effortless-looking.
