Chanel codes: the two-tone slingbacks

Chanel slingbacks AW15

I won’t lie, I’m struggling with the idea of next season’s chunky-soled flatforms with their tacky gold chain (here and here) or lit-up soles. This season’s Chanel is far more me, the very same two-toe slingbacks that Gabrielle Chanel used to wear – completely unmodified.

Chanel put this shoe on all its models for the AW15 show and is giving it a big push with a series of videos. Four in fact, and very charming they are too. I’ve got to say, someone at Chanel is doing an outstanding job on the content front. Watch it here.

JIGSAW AW15 Sheepskin Jacket £495 Soft Stretch Polo Neck Sweater £129 Richmond Indigo Skinny Jeans £79

How great is it to see the British high street embracing style conscious ‘mid century modern’ women with well made, classic cuts that have contemporary flair? Whistles has successfully led the charge here for a while, M&S is doing so much better and Jigsaw is the latest to up its game.

As Lisa Armstrong pointed out in The Telegraph, Jigsaw was amazing in the 90s but then it lost its mojo. I remember the John Pawson-designed store and Juergen Teller campaigns (more…)

Top 5 styling moments from Dior SS16

DIOR SS16 top 5 styling moments
For SS16, Dior womenswear is lighter and less structured than ever. As is his way, Raf riffs on the dualities of past and future (with a hint of space age in the bags), masculine and feminine (rugged shapes over delicate lingerie styling) and luxury and utility.

Here are my top 5 styling highlights…

1. BIG JUMPER, SMALL PANTS

One of the most easily translatable looks was the cropped scallop-hemmed knits with pushed-up sleeves worn over white organdie cami-knickers. Don’t worry, IRL, these will be shorts… (more…)
