Top 5 styling moments from Dior SS16
For SS16, Dior womenswear is lighter and less structured than ever. As is his way, Raf riffs on the dualities of past and future (with a hint of space age in the bags), masculine and feminine (rugged shapes over delicate lingerie styling) and luxury and utility.
Here are my top 5 styling highlights…
1. BIG JUMPER, SMALL PANTS
One of the most easily translatable looks was the cropped scallop-hemmed knits with pushed-up sleeves worn over white organdie cami-knickers. Don’t worry, IRL, these will be shorts…
2. SPACE AGE TOTES AND SPORTY BARREL BAGS
The gentle sportswear influence of striped duchesse satin parkas and tennis-player pleats were echoed in the bags. My standouts were the leather barrel bags and the (slightly space-agey) metallic leather totes.
3. LAYER YOUR NECKWEAR
Throwing on a scarf any old how just will not do. Dior suggest you wind your silk scarf tourniquet tight (um, not literally!) and secure with an asymmetric choker. Or alternatively, achieve the layered look with one of these new grosgrain-ribboned chokers…
4. A HINT OF PINK
Beauty-wise, Peter Philips offered handsome boyish brows with rosy pink washes on eyelids, cheeks and lips. Dior’s rose gold Color and Contour crayon (out next spring) was drawn along the lashline, with Lip Glow balm layered under Dior Addict lipstick in Delight. These palettes look rather enticing too…
5. LEND AN EAR
Ever since the Mise En Dior earring craze, single earrings have been a bit of a thing at Dior. For SS16, Guido fashioned well-behaved ponytails with ‘ear-partings’ to show off the overstated single ear baubles.
