Trend report: my AW19 wish list

While the fashion industry is becoming less seasonal by the day, instead opting for more frequent ‘drops’, in my mind, September is still officially New Season month. I still look forward to the September issue of Vogue (yes, I’m the one keeping print afloat) (Just – R.I.P Marie Claire) and I’m relieved to see proper clothes in the shops instead of endless tees and shorts. The perfume that never was

Exhibition idea! All those incredible ideas, expensive mistakes, too impossible-to-produce design innovations that never came to fruition.

Example: this Marni perfume bottle by design firm, Sybarite, who created Marni’s global retail identity during the Consuelo Castiglioni years. Sybarite founders Torquil McIntosh and Simon Mitchell’s fragrance bottle never made it to stores, as Castiglioni decided to keep it for her own private collection.

Preceding the Chelsea College of Arts ‘Use Hearing Protection: FAC 1 – 50 / 40‘ exhibition curated by Jon Savage and Mat Bancroft (I wrote about it here), there’s a Sprüth Magers show on right now that ends on September 14th.

Gentlewoman style: what’s the deal with chore coats?

“I don’t need any more jackets!”

“You’ll wear it loads!”

This was the conversation between Dave and I in The Conran Shop a few weeks ago. I’d clocked a cobalt blue cotton twill workwear jacket by Vetra (similar here*) and he insisted I try it on. It was one of those Bill Cunningham-esque utility jackets, the kind I see on lots of guys I know, who look great in them. But you don’t often see them on women. (more…)
