Up close: Dior menswear AW19
What a treat to get a close up look at the Raymond Pettibon pieces at the Dior menswear AW19 press day.
Kim Jones excelled himself with couture quality pieces adorned with Pettibon’s artwork including the spectacular embroidered tabard that wowed everyone at the show. You can see a close up below; the phrase, “with their own light and lash I have drawn them” is from an old Pettibon artwork.
The Mona Lisa artwork was carried on knitwear, bomber jackets and small leather goods and aside from the Pettibon showstoppers, there were lots of beautiful high function clothing and accessory pieces that really elevate Dior’s menswear to another stratosphere.
LVMH sales enjoyed a nice boost in the first quarter, with revenues of €12.5 billion ($14.1 billion), an increase of 16 percent. Of note, according to Reuters, sales at LVMH’s leather goods unit (which is largely driven by Vuitton) rose 15 percent. Those are most likely womenswear sales, but notable Dior men’s leather goods for AW19 included these two-in-one utility-luxe bags and dog pouches – novelty items likely to appeal to the entry level Dior customer.
