Perfect pairing: socks and loafers

One of the major trends of the year is undoubtedly the deconstructed prep of Miu Miu SS22 – think pleated skirts, loafers and school uniform socks.

While I haven’t succumbed to the pleated skirt* (yet), I’ve enjoyed all the sightings and varied configurations of pleated midi skirt, relaxed-fit trench, loafers and socks. My current trench of choice is this Mackintosh Maili*, a lighter weight than usual, with side splits and no epaulettes to get tangled up in your Hermes Constance New Yorker tote bag. If 2020 was all about sweats, I think autumn 2021 will be all about the return to sweaters. That comfort and cosiness is still our moda operandi but with an additional layer of polish. Here are a few of my recommendations…

ROLLNECKS. Slimfitting rollnecks are used as both a styling device and an extra layer. They look good in a contrasting colour to what’s worn on top, and I particularly love the contrast of a fitted rollneck under an oversized crew neck knit or shirt. Try COS for lightweight merino wool* and Brunello Cucinelli for winter white short sleeves*. (more…)

Face Values - The New Beauty Rituals and Skincare Secrets Book by Navaz Batliwalla

It’s book publication day tomorrow! My second book, Face Values: The New Beauty Rituals and Skincare Secrets is a departure from fashion, diving into the world of beauty and skin care rituals, and the identity stories that accompany them.

Without giving too much away, this is a really celebratory book, that I hope draws you into the lives (and beauty cabinets!) of some truly inspiring people. I have interviewed fragrance experts, skin care founders, therapists, make-up artists and pioneering retailers, as well as beauty trailblazers whose style and taste are both relatable and aspirational.
