Here’s the latest weekly DRG STYLE INDEX ranking, a round-up of the brands currently buzzing on my radar…
1. DIOR DRAMAS
What a shocker to hear of Raf’s impending departure from Dior! The general consensus is that he has done the right thing in jumping off the treadmill, so the question is what will he do as a free agent if he doesn’t go to another brand? There’s another question for me. (more…)
White jeans. To some, they conjur up visions of skinny super-stretchy Vicky Beckham jeans accompanied by WAG-era plat-heeled Tributes. But not me. For my generation, a white jean (only an original-cut Levi’s boy-fit 501, mind,) signals 80s euro cool – especially when cropped at the ankle and accompanied by Gucci loafers, Ray-Ban Wayfarers, an obscure style mag and an exotic Italian beverage, supped at a pavement table. My best ever denim discovery was the in-house hem shortening service at the Levi’s flagship store. My second best could well be RE/DONE, the L.A denim brand that does the modifying for you.
I’m old enough to have a deep connection to Levi’s 501s, the iconic jean that hooked me in the 80s, hung on in the 90s, slightly lost us in the 00s and is back and thriving in 2015. But while the market for new or new-old is healthy, it seems there’s still a hunger for genuine, aged, lived-in Levi’s jeans, which is where RE/DONE comes in. (more…)
Repettos are best worn sans socks, but then there are the many options of fancy flats cropping up everywhere which look great with fine gauge Falke socks or fluffy cashmere equivalents. My favourites are pancake flat with a pointy toe and an ankle strap or T-bar.
Miu Miu, Tabitha Simmons and Bionda Castana are on my fantasy wish list, the more bejewelled the better.
