Chanel codes: the two-tone slingbacks

Chanel slingbacks AW15

I won’t lie, I’m struggling with the idea of next season’s chunky-soled flatforms with their tacky gold chain (here and here) or lit-up soles. This season’s Chanel is far more me, the very same two-toe slingbacks that Gabrielle Chanel used to wear – completely unmodified.

Chanel put this shoe on all its models for the AW15 show and is giving it a big push with a series of videos. Four in fact, and very charming they are too. I’ve got to say, someone at Chanel is doing an outstanding job on the content front. Watch it here.

Quote of the day: Christophe Lemaire

Christophe lemaire on the everyday uniform

“If you can step away from the system of changing a collection every six months, you realize that you do not want to change your wardrobe every season, you just want to build your wardrobe. If you notice someone really elegant, you will notice that there is a kind of uniformity, a kind of stability. I think stylish people know themselves, they know how to dress, they know what suits them, their body — and what makes them feel confident. That’s not changing every six months — that’s just absurd.”
Christophe Lemaire, New York Times T Magazine

I’m surprised Jil Sander Navy doesn’t get a lot more attention. It’s easily one of the better diffusion lines; the cuts are great, the quality is good and it’s all highly wearable. The knits have a whiff of prep school uniform, as do the sensible shirts, while the skirts are slightly risque (but never too much) with strategically-placed splits. (more…)
