I watched the Dries van Noten AW17 live stream on Facebook Live and enjoyed the interaction and running commentary from fellow viewers. It was wholly positive except for some anti-fur comments. I loved seeing my fave 90s models – Cecilia Chancellor, Emma Balfour, Amber Valetta, Kirsten Owen – owning the catwalk in Dries’ boxy blazers and slouchy denim (with ankle socks and chunky heels or winklepickers – fab!). At Self Service, content matters

I’m not a big fan of the word ‘content’. Too often it signifies churned out ‘filler’ that brands use because they feel they need ‘something’ on their endless marketing channels. (Which they do, but it could be much more meaningful than the same content we see everywhere.) Hopefully Ezra Petronio will help change that with his Self Service spin off, Content Matters. No sooner had yesterday’s Burberry show ended than emails started pinging into my inbox from Matches Fashion and Selfridges. New-in within seconds were the voluminous-sleeved lace blouses, asymmetrical cut-out sweatshirts, Portrait bags and deconstructed cable knits.

Not far from the show venue, in the Regent street flagship store, a similar scenario was underway. DRG’s retail editor Alison Bishop WhatsApp-ed me with a video clip of VIP clients shopping up a storm, swarming around the bags and trench coats. (more…)
