Gentlewoman style: Hereu shoes

Hereu loafer sandals

Fugly shoes. I ran a mile from the Ugg, I swerved the Croc, I’ve never embraced the Balenciaga Triple S, so why am I invested in the Hereu hybrid sandal-loafer?

This shoe* is part classic Ivy style, part Start-Rite, but there’s something in its wrongness that’s kind of right. I think it’s because with my wardrobe of vintage Bass Weejuns and Church’s Derbys, I’m craving something a bit unpredictable. (more…)

On my wish list: Celine boots

Summer’s all but fizzled out here, so I’ve turned my attention to winter boots.

Celine has the perfect Western boot around, with a medium heel, not-too-pointy toe and steel toe cap. I love the styling with the vintage 501-style jeans, boxy blazer and bourgeois bag. Quote of the day: Jerry Hall on Fortnum & Mason

“I loved going shopping in London, like at Fortnum & Mason. They have these guys in uniform with white gloves there and they never rush you. They stand there forever. I couldn’t get over it.”

I’m loving this description of Jerry Hall cavorting round Fortnum’s. (more…)

YSL Nu make-up line for Gen Z

YSL Nu*, the new make-up-meets-skincare hybrid from YSL Beauty is one of the best (dare I say ‘authentic’) iterations of the current ‘real skin’ beauty ranges I’ve seen yet. While the photography adheres to the ‘Glossier’ playbook (think extreme close-ups, racially diverse casting, un-perfect skin) it’s also clearly unretouched and the lighting is fairly unforgiving. Yet the images are striking and the cast cool enough to make this a compelling sell.

According to Hypebae, these five items were created with Gen Z for Gen Z. (more…)
