OMG, have you seen Anna Sui’s Disney make-up!

Anna-Sui-Disney-Asos 2

This could well be the cutest beauty packaging of the year. Anna Sui’s Minnie Mouse nail polish bottle, bow palette and lipstick are quite gobsmacking. And in the case of the lipstick, almost ununsable. I mean, smoosh that bullet into your lips? Way to ruin the effect! (more…)

My T-shirt for Marc Cain SS14

1 Marc-Cain-tshirt-disneyrollergirl-Navaz-Batliwalla-ss14

A few months ago I was invited to design a T-shirt for Marc Cain SS14 along the theme of ‘Pink… From Paris to Tokyo’. I’ve never designed a T-shirt before but one of the suggestions was a collage, so I didn’t need to be asked twice.

I decided to focus on stamps and ephemera from my scrapbooks but I had to improvise a little (a lot) as I didn’t have as much French and Japanese material as I imagined. And then it transpired that stamps aren’t as copyright-free as I thought they were so there was a lot of trial and error. Zut alors! But that’s the creative process, right? I initially wanted a unisex, surfy-skaty shaped tee with a bubblegum pink background and an allover print, but the end result is a lot cleaner and more commercial. Here’s a peek at my creative journey…

This is not a handbag

Trending for ss14: the intersection between art and fashion. Oh yes, I’m well up for this. Ok, art and fashion have always been rampant bedfellows, but from here on in, I think we’re going to see a lot more fash-art hook-ups. Sorry purists but art just got fashionable.

To whet our appetites, we’ve had the Dior-Warhol collab for Aw13 and the art-inspired collection from Prada for ss14. Not to mention Chanel’s art gallery-themed ss14 show and the Chanel Bond Street store that’s practically an art gallery in itself.

And hot on the heels of Paris Fashion Week we have… FRIEZE! (more…)

Buy it now: Eudon Choi for River Island

2 River-Island-Eudon-Choi_AW13

The Eudon Choi for River Island shop is open! And aren’t the look book pictures fab?

The capsule collection is part of River Island’s Design Forum which gives emerging designers a platform to reach more consumers at an affordable price. Choi based his inspiration around Vogue photographer Peter Lindbergh’s 1991 Wild At Heart shoot, which famously featured the likes of Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Tatjana Patitz as bad-ass bikers girls.

Eudon Choi’s tomboy-luxe aesthetic is all about boxy, anti-bodycon shapes in rich fabrics. The silver leather jacket (£250) is likely to sell out first, swiftly followed by the biker boots (£110). But the biker-detailed utility jacket (£150) and leather-panelled coat (£200) are probably your best bet for cost-per-wear versatility.
