From the desk of… Joan Didion

Joan Didion auction

Everyone’s talking about Joan Didion’s stuff.

The late writer’s personal effects are going up for auction at Stair Galleries this month and as is usual these days, there’s a forensic unpicking of the icon’s possessions as an insight into her mind and creative genius.

Perfect pairing: socks and loafers

Morjas x Casatlantic loafers

One of the major trends of the year is undoubtedly the deconstructed prep of Miu Miu SS22 – think pleated skirts, loafers and school uniform socks.

While I haven’t succumbed to the pleated skirt* (yet), I’ve enjoyed all the sightings and varied configurations of pleated midi skirt, relaxed-fit trench, loafers and socks. Shown on Vogue’s YT channel, it documents the story of models of colour, from Donyale Luna in the 1960s to Jazzelle Zanaughtti today. And revisits some of my favourites from the past, including Veronica Webb, Sesilee Lopez and Pat Cleveland. (more…)

(I mean, when Kate Moss launches a holistic skincare line, you know there’s a vibe shift.) Hopefully that means we’re raising a generation that won’t resort to invasive aesthetic procedures like injectables, lasers and skin resurfacing to repair damaged skin in the future.

In particular, cleansers, facial washes and body washes have become so much more part of a proactive wellbeing ritual. (more…)
