Beauty bits: Sephora’s social platform, upcycling Diptyque, Bobbi’s new foundation stick, the best lip balm ever…

SEPHORA’S SHOPPABLE INSPIRATION BOARD

Done well, Sephora’s shopping platform could be a gamechanger. Launched two weeks ago, its new Beauty Board is a Pinterest-esque gallery of user-generated photos, which customers engage with, posting reviews, comments and tips. It’s what beauty forums do best, but this adds an all-important shoppable component and the ability to share widely on other platforms. With mobile’s increasing importance in syncing content with commerce, I imagine we’ll be seeing a lot more brands attempting similar feats. Read more here. (more…)

Wearables, schmarables, just give me Chanel!

Wearables, shmarables… If you ask me we’re a long way from the point where wearable technology is truly useful and can’t-live-without. Until then I’ll stick with the traditional fash-tech accessory. ..mostly those inspired by or made by Chanel.

Let’s be honest, no one lusts after Chanel’s RTW the way they perve over the accessories. The bags (even ludicrous hula-hoop ones), the sock-shoes, the trainers (I’m still getting asked about these)… And then there are the beauty products which are accessories in their own right. Resurrecting the spirit of detroit

There’s a little bit of a buzz around Detroit at the moment – the once-vibrant-now-less-so motoring and manufacturing city.

Shinola is a brand at the heart of Detroit’s resurgence that I discovered last year. It specialises in watches and leathergoods crafted from leather produced by Detroit’s Horween Leather Company – one of America’s oldest tanneries. (more…)
