Arriving tomorrow: Maarten Van Der Horst for Topshop




Paging fans of Maarten van der Horst and his shouty Hawaiian florals! Tomorrow sees the arrival of Van der Horst’s debut Topshop capsule collection and having had an early preview I can say it’s worth getting excited about. The standout pieces are the boxy blazer, shirt and shorts, all in the same lush print that’s a dead ringer for the print in his St Martin’s graduate collection.

I really like the masculine cut of the shirt which can be worn buttoned up or open like a jacket. The collection arrives in store at Oxford Circus and Knightsbridge plus online, with prices from £45 for a tee shirt (not shown).

As I never tire of saying, I’m not the biggest online shopper. The reasons are many but in a nutshell:
*I live in London. We have Harvey Nichols, The Shop At Bluebird, Portobello Market et al
*I work in fashion, ergo I like to shop on the hop, browsing in stores on my daily beat
*I’m freelance and despite some people’s conclusions, I don’t sit at home in front of a screen all day so I’m not always in to receive parcels (more…)



Diane Von Furstenburg’s Manhattan penthouse



Just when you thought Diane von Furstenberg (so impressed I can spell that without looking it up) couldn’t get any more fabulous, her Manhattan penthouse appears in Architectural Digest. And suddenly I want a wooden bathtub, animal-print carpet and a table in the shape of a tree. Cue a Pinterest frenzy…

Trend report: Liberty AW12 press day highlights



Liberty‘s press day is one of the highlights of the whole 2-month-long press day circuit. There’s always something new going on with the store (this year it’s the extension of the accessories hall into a space that will reach back to Kingly Street opening on May 1st) and the buyers are on hand to chat through their choices. Womenswear buyer Stephanie Jones, who I first met doing the Liberty Best Of British Open Call last year, gave me a wee tour… (more…)
