On Monday I’m going to Gloucester for one of my favourite blogging activities; I’m off to watch my very own bespoke shirts being made. I now have quite a stash of How It’s Made features in the vault (see them here), from field trips to the Dr Martens factory, the Chanel embroidery workshops, the Smythson bookbinding workshops and – one of my most visited posts – the Hermes handbag workshop just outside Paris. I’m on an unofficial book buying ban but I really want to read Maureen Chiquet’s memoir, ‘Beyond the Label’ next. (Well after I’ve read Joan Juliet Buck’s…) Billed as a cross between Sheryl Sandberg and Elizabeth Gilbert, it’s the story of the former Chanel CEO’s rise to the top, then sudden fall from her perch with the now prerequisite life learnings along the way. Louis Vuitton has done it again, riling the purists with its Jeff Koons collab that launched last week. A collection of accessories that reproduces old masters paintings onto tote bags with the artist’s name picked out in graphic typography, its aim according to Koons is to bring high art to the street.
