London Craft Week 2019 is here

I know this is a terrible thing to say, but there’s too much good stuff on right now. I just caught the last day of Diane Arbus at The Hayward (brilliant). Just missed Don McCullin at the Tate (gutted). And now London Craft Week has snuck up on me and I’m nowhere near ready for it.

London Craft Week is now in its fifth year, a festival of all things artisanal and considered, with the additional backing of some heavyweight sponsors including Dunhill and Purdey to give it that extra push. (more…)



Personalised scent at Ormonde Jayne

I had my first Ormonde Jayne scent experience a few weeks ago, in the newly refurbished boutique in Royal Arcade, off Old Bond Street. The store has been in this little arcade for 17 years and founder Linda Pilkington told me that most of the arcade neighbours (think Paul Smith, Meyrowitz eyewear and Charbonnel & Walker) have been there just as long. Not only that, but there’s a community of other longstanding ‘residents’ of this part of Old Bond Street, who she has seen grow older up over the years. (more…)

London Craft Week and Fashion Revolution

On Monday I’m going to Gloucester for one of my favourite blogging activities; I’m off to watch my very own bespoke shirts being made. I now have quite a stash of How It’s Made features in the vault (see them here), from field trips to the Dr Martens factory, the Chanel embroidery workshops, the Smythson bookbinding workshops and – one of my most visited posts – the Hermes handbag workshop just outside Paris. It’s always an amazing treat as I love getting insider access to these places and geeking out at all the processes. (more…)
