Transitional neutrals: camel and red

We may have experienced 23-degree temperatures and cloudless blue skies this weekend but the leaves have turned claret and the forecast is cooler. Time to shift into my autumn default mode of camel and red. Chanel is on board to ease the transition with its Le Mat de Chanel collection, including Clair Obscur, an all-matte quad of browns, complete with matte-black casing. (Is it me or is everything matte at the moment?)

Funny isn’t it, how despite our tech-invaded world, so many of us still prefer an old-school analogue watch over yet another screen clamped to our wrist. Or maybe not so funny. I’ve noticed that my younger digital native friends are getting fatigued by screen time and craving the simplicity of cash, books and classic timepieces.

Of course, most of us want both. That’s definitely the case for my generation, who grew up with analogue, but for the past ten years has had a foot in both camps. I love my tech devices but I’m equally cynical about them and appreciate that time passes more leisurely when I’m not reacting to endless notifications.

Even though I didn’t buy it myself (it was a gift about 20 years ago), my Cartier Panthère watch has been one of my most faithful style companions. With its steel bracelet, curved corners and discreet sapphire winding crown, it really is a go-anywhere watch.

Net-a-Porter has just announced it will stock Cartier watches permanently on the site, following an initial test phase last year. It’s ramping up its offer of fine jewellery and watch brands and to accompany the news, it has released a new Cartier campaign. If anything can entice you to splash that cash, this is it. (more…)
