Buy it now: Softly softly

Soft spring fashion

Oh man, I’m gagging for the clocks to go forward, to rip off my Heattech and dark sweaters and let in the light. Specifically, I’ve got my eye on all the prim-collared broderie anglaise blouses doing the rounds (think Etoile by Isabel Marant and Philosophy) to wear with tailored trousers or Levi’s 501s and polished lace-ups.

It’s still only March though, so I’m trying not to get too carried away. Knitwear still reigns in my house, but hopefully in softer colours like the romantic pink Simone Rocha, or Chinti & Parker’s dove grey (I particularly like the layering-friendly curved hem on this one).

I have quite a few Equipment shirts, but they’re mostly dark neutrals so I think an uplifting upgrade to something in peachy pink could be in order. And although Chanel’s Beige Rose nail colour is a little bit safe, it’s nevertheless a perfect match for spring…

Beauty favourites: moisture-packed lip sheers

The best Sheer moisturising lipsticks from YSL Chanel Givenchy Burberry Dior

There seems to be a huge push for multi-tasking moisturising lipsticks that let you decide if you want them sheer or high impact. YSL Beauty’s new Rouge Volupté Shine Tint-In-Oil sticks are the perfect example. They’re packaged like a classic lipstick but deliver so much more, which doesn’t surprise me – beauty consumers demand a hell of a lot from beauty products there days. The YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Tint-In-Oil stick is the solid stick version of the brilliant Volupté Tint-In-Oil that came out early last year. (more…)

Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood AW16

Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne westwood aw16 by Kevin Tachman

The above jacket was my favourite from the Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood AW16 show. It’s an amalgamation of a few ideas, fusing Kronthaler’s Austrian ancestry with British tailoring and a gender-neutral sensibility. The embellishment on the jacket on the left is from antler horns upcycled from antique hunting trophies and was triggered by Kronthaler’s trip back to his Tyrolean homeland at Christmas. (more…)

Trend report: not just jeans

Photo by Hiroyuki Seo for Teeth Magazine

I’m a bit over jeans at the moment. I’ve got the ones I like, I can’t wear flares and I’m more interested in other types of denim. Like what Keji is doing with dark indigo kimono jackets, Chloe’s artist smocks and MIH Jeans’ romantic chambray. And then there are things that look like denim, but aren’t, such as Vivetta’s cotton shirt dress and Gucci’s piped silk shirt. Isn’t it the stuff of dreams?

I’m trying to break up my denim with colour, and red is always good for that. (more…)
