Beauty favourites: moisture-packed lip sheers

The best Sheer moisturising lipsticks from YSL Chanel Givenchy Burberry Dior

There seems to be a huge push for multi-tasking moisturising lipsticks that let you decide if you want them sheer or high impact. YSL Beauty’s new Rouge Volupté Shine Tint-In-Oil sticks are the perfect example. They’re packaged like a classic lipstick but deliver so much more, which doesn’t surprise me – beauty consumers demand a hell of a lot from beauty products there days. The YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Tint-In-Oil stick is the solid stick version of the brilliant Volupté Tint-In-Oil that came out early last year.
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick.

Its USP is a formula made up of 65% oils designed to hydrate and nourish (it claims that after four week’s use your lips will look more nourished) along with Hyaluronic acid spheres to help seal in moisture. There are three shade families (including twelve new-season shades) and they’re all very easy to wear. I veer towards the soft corals and rose pinks. My most-used from the samples I was sent (above) are no 41 Corail a Porter (middle) and 43 Rose Rive Gauche (right) and I love the luxe gold packaging and signature mango scent. You can buy Rouge Volupté Shine Tint-In-Oil from Selfridges, House of Fraser and YSL Beauty.

Aside from the Tint-In-Oil stick, I’ve amassed quite a few other favourites in this balmy pigmented-but-moisturising lip category. Here’s a quick run-down…

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine hydrating balm lipsticks
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine: This is my current favourite balm-lipstick hybrid. Even with the deeper shades, the beautiful iridescence knocks down the impact so that a bold colour doesn’t overpower. I like how the softer shades leave behind a lip-coloured stain without drying out. My daytime recommendations are (left to right) Mighty, Romance and Desinvolte – they’re so foolproof you can apply them on the go without a mirror.

Burberry Kisses Sheer lipstick
Burberry Kisses Sheer: These are like luxe tinted lip balms, lovely and creamy in the prettiest everyday shades. These are a gel formula with rosehip, tea and lavender to condition. They wear off quite quickly, so need frequent reapplying but they don’t leave behind a dry or cakey residue. My go-to shades are Camellia (above left) and Orange Poppy (right). Don’t be deceived, they go on super-sheer but you can build intensity.

Dior Addict lipstick in Mutine 655
Dior Addict in Mutine (655) is a super-subtle coral pink that has great staying power despite its natural finish. This is the lipstick I reach for when I want to look groomed but not overly statementy. With 25% less wax than most lipstick, the bullet instead has a core of hydra-gel running through it, which dispenses a coat of gel-effect luminosity as it’s applied for a subtle, sheeny finish.

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl lipstick
Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl: I wrote about these black rose oil infused lipsticks (above) a couple of months ago HERE, so this is just to say that I’m still wearing and loving them. Pictured above is Orange Magnetique no 8 (top) and Rose Sulfureux no 6 (bottom). The application is smooth and sheer, they feel great on and last really well. Buy it HERE.
