I’ve spent the last month in a wellness bubble, reading up on the apparently $8 billion industry. Like most people, I had zero interest in mindfulness, self-care and sheet masking rituals five years ago, yet here I am, as obsessed with meditation apps and rose quartz rollers as the next person. I wonder what came first – our anxiety-ridden culture or the industry that told us we need CBD facials and sound baths to stay sane?

I don’t have the answer, but my weakness is anything ritualistic that promises to counter the pressures of digital overstimulation and my not-done to-do list. (more…)

Liberty Conscious Beauty

Liberty has launched its Conscious Beauty campaign this month, with the news that searches of ‘vegan beauty’ on Liberty‘s website are up 135% and sales for ‘conscious beauty’ products have increased by 43% year on year.

For the duration of the campaign, Liberty is housing a ‘Beauty Empties’ drop-off point in the store, where all packaging will be collected and recycled with TerraCycle. The camellia flower is synonymous with Chanel. It’s the minimalist white flower that you see on accessories, prints and even engraved on buttons and was the flower that Gabrielle Chanel’s lover, Boy Capel presented to her. It doesn’t have a smell but it does, it turns out, have some magical skincare properties.

Chanel’s skincare lab created its camellia-extract ‘Camellia Alba PFA’ (stick with me) a while ago. It’s a mainstay of the Hydra Beauty skincare line, of which the cult water-gel Hydra Beauty Micro Serum is one of my Holy Grail products.

Spring is in the air, which means it’s time for the annual rose beauty roundup. I really like subtle rose fragrances in skincare and slightly stronger ones in my body oils and potions. There are studies that show rose oil can have numerous therapeutic effects, from analgesic to physiological; for me it’s definitely up there with lavender as a calming, comforting scent.
