JO MALONE LONDON always crack out the best beauty gifts and novelties for Christmas. They revealed all to the press back in July, as most brands do with their ‘Christmas In July’ showcases. (These are a real treat – M&S pulled out the stops, wheeling in a host of food suppliers to ply us with chocolates, hams, every type of tangerine and satsuma, I won’t go on….) This year we got a mini ice rink and every permutation of Jo Malone London favourites you could hope for.

I’m literally drowning under new fragrance samples right now, but I’ve narrowed down my current three favourites that are launching this autumn. They’re all very different and I do admit to being swayed as much by the branding as the scent in some cases…

Here’s a great three-way collab that marries experiential retail with personalisation and a hand crafted approach to design. Last week, Jo Malone London invited me to experience its pop-up screen printing studio hosted by creative collective Calm & Collected. The arty foursome have designed special graphic labels for five of Jo Malone London’s favourite scents (yay, Pomegranate Noir is in there!) and as an added bonus the guys are screen-printing complementary boxes to go with. SEPHORA’S SHOPPABLE INSPIRATION BOARD

Done well, Sephora’s shopping platform could be a gamechanger. Launched two weeks ago, its new Beauty Board is a Pinterest-esque gallery of user-generated photos, which customers engage with, posting reviews, comments and tips. It’s what beauty forums do best, but this adds an all-important shoppable component and the ability to share widely on other platforms. With mobile’s increasing importance in syncing content with commerce, I imagine we’ll be seeing a lot more brands attempting similar feats. Read more here. (more…)
